Transportation
The West Island is served by a network of buses and two commuter train lines to downtown Montreal - one running along the south through Ste- Anne-de-Bellevue, Baie d'Urfé, Beaconsfield, Pointe Claire, Dorval and Lachine - and the other along the north through Pierrefonds, Ste.-Geneviève and Roxboro. There are two major highways running east/west through the West Island (Highway 40 which is the Trans Canada, and Highway 20) and one running north to Laval and the Laurentian mountains (Highway 13). To get to ski and lake country in the Eastern Townships south of Montreal, most West Islanders use the Champlain Bridge to the Eastern Townships Autoroute.
Downtown Montreal is only a 25 minute drive by car from the west island.
